About RanchRanch.com

It's been some time since Palo Alto was known for ranching. But the town that RanchRanch.com calls home might never have developed were it not for a nearby horse farm.

In 1876, former California Governor Leland Stanford bought 650 acres of Rancho San Francisquito to raise horses. He purchased nearby properties over the years, and over time, his Palo Alto Stock Farm came to total 8,180 acres. This land eventually became Stanford University, and the adjacent town came to be called Palo Alto. And while Palo Alto today is better known for computers than cowboys, the hills around Stanford still serve as pasture for a herd of Belted Galloway cows.
